Forest product market analysis
Analysis of forest-based product supply chains, markets and trade patterns from local to international scales, covering both wood-based and wild (“non-wood”) forest products, as well as traditional and innovative forest-based products.
Ecosystem services assessment and valuation
Biophysical and economic assessment of market and non-market ecosystem services provided by forests and other ecosystems, including urban ecosystems. Analysis of ecosystem service markets and market-based mechanisms for their valuation (payments for ecosystem services, standards and certification, carbon and biodiversity credits, etc.). Design and assessment of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) for environmental and societal challenges.
Forest and other ecosystem depletion and degradation assessment
Analysis of patterns of deforestation and forest and other ecosystem degradation, their direct and indirect drivers—including forest-risk commodity supply chains and trade—and their economic, environmental and social impacts. Identification and assessment of policies and measures to address, avoid, reduce and mitigate such patterns.
Corporate Social Responsibility and ESG in the forest sector
Analysis of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) policies and tools in the forest sector, including (but not limited to) forest certification, management standards, auditing and monitoring, reporting, and sustainable projects and investments.
Bioeconomy
Analysis of bioeconomy policies and strategies for forest-based products and services, their direct and indirect impacts, and their links with other policies, including synergies, leakage and trade-offs. Analysis of bioeconomy approaches and case studies at multiple scales.
Policy and governance analysis for natural resource management
Forest and environmental policy analysis at different scales, and governance assessment of actors and institutions involved in natural resource management. Identification and assessment of policy and governance solutions to support sustainable resource management via effective, environmentally sound, economically sustainable, and socially inclusive and fair collective actions.
