Bio

Mauro Masiero is Associate Professor of Forest Policy and Economics at the TESAF Department (Department of Land, Environment, Agriculture and Forestry) of the University of Padova, Italy. He holds a university degree in Forestry and Environmental Sciences and a PhD in Forest Economics.
He has about fifteen years of experience as a consultant in the forestry sector and served as Director of the national FSC® office in Italy for six years (2005-2011). In 2004, he started working as an external researcher at the TESAF Department of the University of Padova, where he subsequently continued his academic career. He was a researcher at the University of Padova from 2017 to 2024 and Adjunct Professor of Rural Appraisal at the University of Bolzano/Bozen from 2014 to 2024.
His research focuses on forest policy and economics, including international markets for forest products and services, illegal logging and other illegal activities in the forestry sector, deforestation and forest degradation processes, sustainable forest management policies, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policies and tools, rural development policies, and the economic assessment of ecosystem services and mechanisms for their valuation and remuneration.
He has been involved in research projects and initiatives in several countries, including Italy, Bangladesh, Brazil, Peru, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Côte d’Ivoire, Ecuador, Paraguay, Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, and has collaborated with national and international organizations including ISPRA, CNR, CIFOR, EFI, FAO, FSC, IFAD, IUFRO and UNECE.
In 2011, he co-founded Etifor, a spin-off of the University of Padova, where he serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors and Scientific Director.
His work combines academic research with applied activities and collaboration with public institutions, international organizations and private-sector partners.
